2.  END OF SEASON DINNER – Friday November 10
The annual end of season dinner/celebration will be held on Friday November 10.  Even though we may be riding on November 12 if the weather holds out (wishful thinking) the official end will be marked by a get together at the Rialto Banquet Hall (that’s the red building).  The event is free to all members with a small cost for guests.  More details will be forthcoming.  In the meantime, save the date.

3.  GOLDEN SPOKE AWARD – Nominations requested

Every year at the end of Season Celebration, we award the Golden Spoke Award to two deserving members.  We ask that you give some thought and submit your nominations for the persons who you believe made the greatest contribution or had the greatest impact both on and off the road.  You can send your nomination by writing a brief email to venetocyclingclub@venetocentre.com (you will have to type in the address yourself on the email as I cannot get make the address a live link – I can’t even change the colour of the font…and we’re in the 21st Century!).
How brief does the email have to be?  It can be as simple as just submitting a name.  If you would like to add some comment or reasoning, we welcome it, but it is not necessary.  We definitely will not be quoting you so no need to sweat it.  We’re able to make up our own material with the requisite embellishments.

4.  FACES OF THE GIRO – A Photo Exhibit – November 3
Everyone is invited to the cocktail reception and photographic exhibit entitled “Faces of the Giro” to be held Friday November 3 at 6:30pm at the Joseph D Carrier Art Gallery at the Columbus Centre.  At the last Villa Charities Giro, our very own Frank Mazzuca and another photographer, shot portraits if the participants and now those photos are part of this special collection.  I invite you not only to come to enjoy the collection but also to support one of our own, Frank Mazzuca, who has supported us throughout the entire year.  Frank is part of the team that cooks for us every Sunday, he takes care of the Green group and he provides us with the images and the artwork that gives the VCC its face.  I leave you with a poster of the event (which was created by none other than Frank) and one of his portraits of one of our founding members, Steven Andreetta.

5. OCA TO HONOUR VCC MEMBER – November 4
The OCA is hosting its annual awards banquet at the Veneto Centre on Saturday November 4.  Although being the host site is an honour in itself – everyone will be coming to our turf – one of our VCC members has been tapped for an award.  We’ll let you know who it is and what was won after the awards banquet.  stay tuned.

6. SPIN SESSIONS TO START MID-NOVEMBER
Every year around this time we send a reminder or a note of encouragement to our members to continue the good practices developed during the summer into the winter by joining a group or class that offers spinning.

The VCC began to offer spin sessions last year and will continue to do so this year.  All you need is a spinner (is there another name for that contraption?  If so, know that that is what I meant to say with the term “spinner”), and a bike.  Oh. and don’t forget to bring in 2 towels: one for you and one for the floor.  Some people have a powerful sweat that dissolves the varnish on the floor – silent but deadly.  More details will come out next week and you can place yourself on the class list by emailing venetocyclingclub@venetocentre.com.

7. ZWIFT TORONTO HUSTLE EVENT AT LA BICICLETTA

With training season starting, our sponsor, La Bicicletta, is hosting an evening with Zwift and the local elite cycling team Toronto Hustle.  This is a great opportunity to gather the information needed to get you started with your winter training plan while trying out Zwift on smart trainers, and having some fun racing.  If VCC members would like to attend, please sign up at la-bicicletta-presents-zwift- toronto-hustle

Entry No. 1: A SALUTE TO OUR CHEFS – Photo submitted by Frank Mazzuca

We wish to thank our chefs, Steve, Frank and Stefanie who thought they were cooking up their last Sunday lunch last week.  Well, they’re planning something new for today and might have to pull another one out of their sleeves for next week.  In the meantime, we thank them and salute them for all their hard work and dedication throughout the year.
