Dear Fellow Cyclists:

Our editor and chief of The Roar, Sir Sandro Zoppi, is away in Veneto, Italy buying PROSECCO for the club as our inventory is quite low. He is also attending a conference in Vicenza and multitasking with the locals in his hometown Paese, gearing up for the Chin Chin song in preparation for our upcoming Italy trip.  That being said,  you are  left with yours truly to bring forth your latest edition of THE ROAR….

1. RIDE FOR ROB TAYLOR – July 30, 2017

The Veneto Cycling Club will be hosting this Sunday July 30, 2017 a Celebration Ride to honour the life of our former member Rob Taylor who we tragically lost this past year. An outdoor ceremony will take place  prior to scheduled ride departure.  In honour of Rob Taylor’s  life, all ride groups will then proceed  to James Dick Cement Plant.  A minute of silence shall be observed by all VCC groups in remembrance before they continue on with their scheduled rides.  In keeping with the  celebration,  the VCC will be having a SUNDAY SUMMER BBQ….Hope to see you all there!!!

3. DESTINATION RIDES

On July 9, 2017 18 VCC members took part in the VCC very first  Destination Ride.  It was an official ride, but not announced to the club.  I participated but did not post this ride as I wanted to monitor the logistics of the long ride and use it as a template for future long distance rides.  The 142 km ride departed from Toronto following Lakeshore Road .  I was very impressed as the group contained riders from all VCC  categories but everyone rode well together and everyone  completed the excursion.  We had lunch in Niagara on the Lake and then completed another 22km to the Go Station in Niagara.  A small entourage of die hards rode an additional 8km for a photo op at Niagara Falls.  A Uhaul van was rented and bikes were loaded for the return to Mimico Go Station in Toronto where their bikes were reunited with their owners who took the Go Train for their return.  The trip was a success and will be repeated next month.  Anyone wishing to do a Destination Ride, please bring it to my attention and we will make it happen!  Congratulations to John Nikolovski and to Paul Duarte for organizing the ride, the route, and leading the way as ride leaders!!!!
